In a span of 400 years of colorful history, Malabon continues to experience changes while preserving its culture and traditions being passed from one generation to another. It was on March 5, 2001, that the President of the Republic of the Philippines, Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed into law the Republic Act No. 9019 converting the Municipality of Malabon into a highly urbanized city and was ratified after the plebiscite on April 21, 2001.
Today Malabon has become a coastal city situated in the northern part of Metro Manila. Malabon, together with Navotas, Valenzuela, Pateros, Taguig, Pasig, and Muntinlupa, form the Metro Manila outer ring of towns, with the city of Manila as the center.
